How it works

Type, check, lock it in

Every letter in the grid is part of two words: one across, one down.

  1. Type letters anywhereTwo are given to start you off. The sixteen letters the grid uses sit under it, scrambled; tap one to type it.
  2. Press Check whenever you likeEach check colours the letters you've placed.
  3. Rows and columns lock themselvesA row or column that spells its word locks in straight away, without a check.
  4. Solve it in as few checks as you canThen share your score, with no spoilers.
  • GreenRight, and locked in place.
  • AmberBelongs somewhere else in its row or column.
  • GreyBelongs in neither.

Questions

Questions, answered

Is Spellora free?

Yes. It's free to play, with ads, and there is nothing to buy. If you're stuck, you can choose to watch a short video to reveal a letter.

Is it the same grid for everyone?

Yes. Everyone gets the same grid each day, and a new one at midnight. You can share your result as a grid of coloured squares that gives nothing away.

What if I miss a day?

Every past grid is waiting in the calendar. Play the ones you missed whenever you like; they won't touch your streak. And once today's grid is done, practice grids are unlimited.

What do the colours mean?

After a check, green letters are right and lock in place, amber letters belong somewhere else in their row or column, and grey letters belong in neither. A row or column that spells its word locks in straight away, without a check.

Does Spellora work offline?

Yes. The puzzles are played entirely on your phone, and ads are the only thing the app uses the internet for. With the internet switched off it shows no ads and sends nothing.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no account or sign-up, and your progress and stats stay on your phone. Spellora is made for teens and adults.

What ads does it show, and what do they collect?

Ads come from Google AdMob: a banner, an occasional full-screen ad when you move on from a finished grid, and video ads you can choose to watch to reveal a letter. Google's ad software collects some device and usage information to show and measure them; the privacy policy lists exactly what.
